Más caballería para Ostermark / More cavalry for Ostermark

Saludos,

Greetings,

This week has been intense. Which means, in most of cases, productive. In this case I've been focused on the second cavalry unit of the Elector Count of Ostermark. As previous cavalry unit, these models have suffered several transformations, as you can see below.

As I explained in the previous post dedicated to Magnus, the generic imperial barded horse model is extremely old. I have always defended the idea that there are no "old" models but "old" painting stiles, but this time I wanted to update a little bit its appearance .

To achieve this goal I used Chaos Knights steeds, who underwent a remarkable process of "imperialization". About riders, on the other hand, I replaced their helmets by that ones from demigiffon knights in order to give them a more personal touch.

Y luego a Magnus. Eso seguro.

Concerning painting job, 90% of the time has been occupied painting horses... Mother of God, how much detail! Fortunately, I am quite satisfied with the final result and now I am following the same scheme to paint the Ostermark battle standard bearer and the Elector Count  Stefan von Kessel himself. And then Magnus. For sure.

For shields, seems no suitable the imperial black cross, so I smoothed the shields of the imperial knights sprue and then drew over the emblem of Ostermark: the manticore with sword.

  1. Wow. Freehand painting shields for whole regiments. I wish I had that level of dedication.

The converted Chaos steeds look good. I have a pile of them waiting for similar treatment. One day...

  2. Good to hear you gonna make the same with chaos steeds. My advice: take special attention on glue these steeds on their bases; it's really difficult to fit them all as a close unit. I spent more time searching the way to fit them than painting the shields (or, almost, the same amount of hours...)

  3. I have considered the chaos knight steeds myself as well, good to see that they can be de-chaosified as well. As we know, Chaos has all the coolest rides.
You didn´t convert the already finished unit? This is a new one, right?

  4. That's right. There are 2 cavalry units now, each one formed by 15 knights, ones with lance, the others with two handed weapons. Only another strictly cavalry unit remains to paint by me: 40 knights of the Griffon orden. Then, 12 demigriphons. Pep and Diosko also have White Wolf, Knight Panthers and Reiskgard.
And yes, there are several cool transformation using these steeds on the net. Specially a unit about knights of Morr. Search it!
